Dr. Anthony Shapiro graduated from Johannesburg University in 1986, and moved to Sydney with his family in 1995, taking over the Avalon Wholistic Medical & Dental Centre from Dr Brian Tracey.
He is committed to the idea of creating a friendly welcoming Centre which embodies a commitment to professional excellence.
Since he began practising dentistry, Dr. Shapiro has actively pursued his many interests in continuing education. To use a small example, he has studied implants, sports dentistry, oral health, as well as continually investigating new products and advances in dentistry, of which there are many!
In recent times Anthony has introduced the popular Cerec machine to the practice, enabling patients to have crowns made onsite and conveniently fitted on the same day.
His main concern is ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care, so that they can have the best treatment available, and make educated choices about their dental care.Request an appointment
We have three Kiwis at the Centre and Alecia is one of them!
Alecia has been Anthony’s full time dental nurse for well over two years, and has five years’ experience in dental surgeries, after previously working in health care.
Alecia loves people and brings a friendly smile to all the dental patients, regardless of age, and is happy to support anyone who might feel a little less confident about sitting in the dental chair.
Alecia is very fond of the Northern Beaches, but never forgets the All Blacks!
Dr Lorna Scott graduated in Medicine from Sydney University in 1977. During more than 30 years in general practice she has used her studies in herbal medicine, homeopathy, nutritional medicine, meditation and psychological therapies to complement her medical practice.
Lorna uses a holistic and integrated approach using these modalities to treat chronic health problems. Her special interests are children’s health, digestive disorders, IBS and inflammatory bowel disease, migraine, women’s health and fertility. She assists cancer patients with an integrative approach when they are going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
I enjoy the challenge of assisting with most chronic health conditions, such as fibromyalgia, joint pain and auto-immune diseases.
With Practice Nurse Julia Alston, Lorna runs an intravenous vitamin C clinic for some chronic health disorders.
Lorna works in a team setting at Avalon Wholistic Medical & Dental Centre, so as to inter-refer to the Allied health practitioners onsite, and so that patients can have the totality of their healing experience under the one roof.
Julia has been Practice Nurse at the Centre for 5 years, and brings a wealth of experience to the Centre, having been a nurse for 20+ years. She is also qualified as a Child & Family Health Care Nurse.
Julia takes care of allergy tests, food intolerance testing, IV vitamin therapy, baby health care, breastfeeding issues, immunisations, health care checks, BP checks, wound care, pathology, pap smears and travel advice.
I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine at University of Technology in Sydney and then followed with practical experience in Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital China.
In further studies I extended my knowledge with Japanese acupuncture, and I have a particular interest in the Classical Period of Chinese Herbal Medicine. I have also studied shiatsu, cranio-sacral therapy and Tuina body work, and I utilise all of these modalities within my treatments.
As a practitioner I am most interested in depth of therapeutic process and therefore treat only one patient at a time for one hour appointments. This allows for a more holistic approach, the space and time for therapeutic unfolding, quality of communication and understanding.
This approach is excellent at treating complex and chronic conditions where there are many overlaying factors at play. Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, psycho-emotional issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, hormonal issues such as infertility, menopausal symptoms, and menstrual cycle problems, and chronic digestive issues, auto immune and muscular/skeletal problems.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been in constant development for over two thousand years and offers a comprehensive, intelligent and safe paradigm of healthcare. It is gentle but effective and by utilising an extremely holistic view of the body it can offer insight that differs from Western or allopathic medicine.Request an appointment

Kerrie is passionate about Reflexology. This gentle non-invasive therapy promotes balance in the physical, mental, emotional and energetic levels of the body. Through stimulation toxins are released allowing the natural flow of energies to be restored.
Kerrie has worked professionally as a reflexologist for 10 years and has seen the many benefits possible. Reflexology complements other therapies.
Each relaxing one hour session begins with a soothing foot bath using essential oils, followed by gentle treatment of the reflexology points on the feet. The session is completed with an ancient toe balancing and a centring through the solar plexus.
The result is blissful!Request an appointment
In 1987 I discovered yoga after bouts of back problems. I loved the feeling of the postures in my body and centred presence in my mind and emotions. This began my discovery and learning about the powerful mechanics of mind, emotions, heart and soul.
My University years were in Bath, UK where I majored in nutrition before traveling from England to live in Australia. I completed a Diploma of Herbal Medicine in Sydney and followed my interest for some years.
In 2005 I completed my yoga teacher training with IYTA (International Yoga Teachers Association), and have followed this passion since then.
I have been at the Centre for 5 years now, and offer individual or small classes which provide specialised care for individual conditions and requirements such as illness, accident recovery or chronic conditions. Or you may simply be looking for a gentler practice.
I love organic homemade muesli, peppermint raw dark chocolate, brown rice and seaweed, and comforting Chai tea. And yoga!
