Dr. Anthony Shapiro graduated from Johannesburg University in 1986, and moved to Sydney with his family in 1995, taking over the Avalon Wholistic Medical & Dental Centre from Dr Brian Tracey.
He is committed to the idea of creating a friendly welcoming Centre which embodies a commitment to professional excellence.
Since he began practising dentistry, Dr. Shapiro has actively pursued his many interests in continuing education. To use a small example, he has studied implants, sports dentistry, oral health, as well as continually investigating new products and advances in dentistry, of which there are many!
In recent times Anthony has introduced the popular Cerec machine to the practice, enabling patients to have crowns made onsite and conveniently fitted on the same day.
His main concern is ensuring that his patients receive the most comprehensive and advanced dental care, so that they can have the best treatment available, and make educated choices about their dental care.Request an appointment
Nika graduated from Dental Medicine in 2009 and traded European snowy mountains for sunny Sydney beaches. She has been practicing on the Northern Beaches since gaining her Australian Dental Council certification in 2013.
She is passionate about dentistry and staying up to date with the latest advancements such as clear aligners, anti-snoring devices and aesthetic dentistry.

Jasmina is a medical doctor with particular interest in Functional Medicine, a science-based approach that seeks to understand the root cause of illness. She focuses on the biochemically unique aspects of each patient and then tailors individual interventions to restore health. Jasmina has completed her training with the prestigious Institute of Functional Medicine in the US and is in her final year of the RACGP training.
Prior to her medical training, Jasmina completed a PhD in Molecular Biology, publishing her work on the genetics of cardiovascular disease and the regulation of gene expression. She is now applying her knowledge of genetics and biochemistry to target issues such as autoimmune disease, hormone imbalance, fertility, weight management, cardiovascular disease and mental health. This experience is rare amongst doctors but is important given the increasing relevance of personalised genetic testing in the understanding of chronic disease.
Research shows that lifestyle is a major contributor to the risk of chronic illness. Jasmina offers evidence-based nutrition, exercise and stress management advice. She is aware that applying this advice in real life can be very challenging and has teamed up with our practice nurse, Caroline, to offer you a personalised support, every step of the way.
Jasmina believes that patient education and empowerment are critical to long-term health. Her extensive teaching experience allows her to translate complex science into a language that patients understand and can engage with. Jasmina is planning some exciting workshops that will help you re-energise and connect with your community.
Jasmina is a mother of 3 young boys, understands the challenges of modern families and enjoys supporting them on their journey. She was once an elite alpine skier and is passionate about sports-related nutrition, fitness and outdoor activities. Jasmina can often be seen on tennis courts, mountain bike riding with her 3 young boys or enjoying a yoga class.
Caroline has been a Registered Nurse for 22 years and joined our practice in 2017 when she moved to Australia. She has extensive experience in Child & Family Health in the UK and enjoys meeting young families as well as our elders. Caroline is also a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach. She helps patients to implement their personalised nutrition, fitness and lifestyle plans to improve health and manage chronic illness. Caroline enjoys stand-up paddle boarding and badminton and is passionate about making healthy lifestyle advice fit the real world.
I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine at University of Technology in Sydney and then followed with practical experience in Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital China.
In further studies I extended my knowledge with Japanese acupuncture, and I have a particular interest in the Classical Period of Chinese Herbal Medicine. I have also studied shiatsu, cranio-sacral therapy and Tuina body work, and I utilise all of these modalities within my treatments.
As a practitioner I am most interested in depth of therapeutic process and therefore treat only one patient at a time for one hour appointments. This allows for a more holistic approach, the space and time for therapeutic unfolding, quality of communication and understanding.
This approach is excellent at treating complex and chronic conditions where there are many overlaying factors at play. Chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, psycho-emotional issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, hormonal issues such as infertility, menopausal symptoms, and menstrual cycle problems, and chronic digestive issues, auto immune and muscular/skeletal problems.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been in constant development for over two thousand years and offers a comprehensive, intelligent and safe paradigm of healthcare. It is gentle but effective and by utilising an extremely holistic view of the body it can offer insight that differs from Western or allopathic medicine.Request an appointment

Kerrie is passionate about Reflexology. This gentle non-invasive therapy promotes balance in the physical, mental, emotional and energetic levels of the body. Through stimulation toxins are released allowing the natural flow of energies to be restored.
Kerrie has worked professionally as a reflexologist for 10 years and has seen the many benefits possible. Reflexology complements other therapies.
Each relaxing one hour session begins with a soothing foot bath using essential oils, followed by gentle treatment of the reflexology points on the feet. The session is completed with an ancient toe balancing and a centring through the solar plexus.
The result is blissful!Request an appointment
I have been practising yoga for 25 years and teaching since 2002. When I discovered yoga in my 20’s it was the joyous effects of deep mindfulness that occurred while stretching and strengthening my body that ignited a life long passion for this art form.
I have studied Ki Yoga, Shiatsu and Whole Food as Medicine in Sydney under Master Teacher Jack Marshall. These systems are based on the Japanese meridian system and seasonal cycles. I later studied a more traditional yoga system at the Sivananda Ashram in Himalayas, India, making a deeper connection with the power of the breath, mantra and meditation.
Here at the centre I work with individuals of all levels and ages, both one-to-one and in small groups. These classes provide specialised care for individual conditions and requirements such as illness, accident recovery or chronic conditions. Or simply for those liking a gentler guided practice.
I love nothing more than the opportunity to share the joy and clarity that yoga brings.
