Integrative Medicine Centre
Dr Lorna Scott
Dr Lorna Scott graduated in Medicine from Sydney University in 1977. During more than 30 years in general practice she has used her studies in herbal medicine, nutritional medicine, meditation and psychological therapies to complement her medical practice.
Lorna uses a holistic and integrated approach using these modalities to treat chronic health problems. Her special interests are children’s health, digestive disorders, IBS and inflammatory bowel disease, migraine, women’s health and fertility. She assists cancer patients with an integrative approach when they are going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
She also enjoys the challenge of assisting with most chronic health conditions, such as fibromyalgia, joint pain and auto-immune diseases.
Lorna runs a small intravenous vitamin C clinic for some chronic health disorders.
Lorna works in a team setting at Avalon Wholistic Medical & Dental Centre, so as to inter-refer to the Allied health practitioners onsite, and so that patients can have the totality of their healing experience under the one roof.
Dr Jasmina Dedic-Hagan
Jasmina is a medical doctor with particular interest in Functional Medicine, a science-based approach that seeks to understand the root cause of illness. She focuses on the biochemically unique aspects of each patient and then tailors individual interventions to restore health. Jasmina has completed her training with the prestigious Institute of Functional Medicine in the US and is in her final year of the RACGP training.
Prior to her medical training, Jasmina completed a PhD in Molecular Biology, publishing her work on the genetics of cardiovascular disease and the regulation of gene expression. She is now applying her knowledge of genetics and biochemistry to target issues such as autoimmune disease, hormone imbalance, fertility, weight management, cardiovascular disease and mental health. This experience is rare amongst doctors but is important given the increasing relevance of personalised genetic testing in the understanding of chronic disease.
Research shows that lifestyle is a major contributor to the risk of chronic illness. Jasmina offers evidence-based nutrition, exercise and stress management advice. She is aware that applying this advice in real life can be very challenging and has teamed up with our practice nurse, Caroline, to offer you a personalised support, every step of the way.
Jasmina believes that patient education and empowerment are critical to long-term health. Her extensive teaching experience allows her to translate complex science into a language that patients understand and can engage with. Jasmina is planning some exciting workshops that will help you re-energise and connect with your community.
Jasmina is a mother of 3 young boys, understands the challenges of modern families and enjoys supporting them on their journey. She was once an elite alpine skier and is passionate about sports-related nutrition, fitness and outdoor activities. Jasmina can often be seen on tennis courts, mountain bike riding with her 3 young boys or enjoying a yoga class.
Caroline has been our Practice Nurse since November 2017, and a nurse for 22 years. She has extensive experience in mother and baby care in the UK, and enjoys meeting young families as well as our elders. Currently training as a health coach, Caroline will be helping patients implement their personalised nutrition, fitness and lifestyle management of health and chronic illness. Caroline arrived in Australia in 2017 and luckily chose to join our Centre.
